What is Centripital?
Centripital is a U.S.-based global 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded with the mission to train hospital professionals to work together in high functioning, patient-centered teams. Centripital defines the design features and teamwork competency standards for the Accountable Care Unit, a truly modern hospital care model with four specific design features:
- Unit-based teams;
- Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds, or SIBR® rounds;
- Unit-level performance reporting; and
- Unit-level nurse and physician co-leadership.
As the inventors and developers of the ACU™ care model and SIBR® rounds, we are a team of highly experienced, nationally recognized doctors, nurses, and engineers who, as educators, have helped more than 100 hospital units in the U.S. and overseas learn about the features of the ACU™ care model to help revitalize and modernize their medicine, geriatric, pediatric, cardiology, oncology, intensive care, progressive care, long term acute, general surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopedic units.
How does Centripital accomplish its mission?
When and wherever invited, Centripital conducts the ACU™ Class to teach fellow hospital professionals how much more effective we can be when organized as high-functioning, patient-centered teams. The ACU™ Class is a 3-hour session conducted by an experienced physician and nurse team to teach the structure, process, and outcomes of the ACU™ care model and its four essential features, including Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds. Since our founding in 2012, we have conducted more than 75 class sessions, catalyzing the spread of the ACU™ care model in every region of the U.S. and on four continents.
